A professional spending coach has revealed her top tip to help prevent impulse shopping and overspending – sharing why you are ‘never actually buying what you think you’re buying’ when purchasing a new item.
The information was shared in a TikTok video this week by Texas-based finance expert Paige Pritchard, who is the founder of the online payday loans no credit check community Overcoming Overspending, helping others to reach their ‘full financial potential.’
Pritchard has been candid about how she once blew through a $60,000-a-year salary while living at home with her parents after college – but has since curbed her spending, paying off $98,000 in student online payday loans no credit check and building up a six-figure investment portfolio by the time she was 29.
On social media, Pritchard now shares her financial wisdom and tips with others.

In this new video, which was a part of her ‘Daily Deinfluencing Series,’ she shared a tip that would ‘blow your mind.’
‘So when you buy product, you’re not actually buying the product,’ Pritchard began. ‘I mean, you are, but you’re not really buying the product for the product.’
She explained that ‘beneath the desire’ for the new product you may be buying is actually just a desire for something else.
‘You’re either buying yourself an identity, or a feeling,’ Pritchard shared. ‘Because when it boils down to it, that’s all you really want.’
‘You want to identify as a certain type of person, or you want to feel a certain type of way,’ the content creator continued.
As an example, she said that when you buy a new, fancy-looking planner, you aren’t buying so much as the planner, but the ‘identity’ of someone who has it all together, and the ’emotion’ of feeling that way too.
‘When you buy the anti-aging cream to smooth out your wrinkles, you’re not actually buying the anti-aging cream, what you’re buying is confidence,’ the life coach explained.
Pritchard maintained that once you understood this concept, you would start to look at your purchases through a ‘mental and emotional lens.’
